Board of directors

Dr. ir. Mike Wens,
Chief Executive Officer
and founder

Mike Wens received the Master of Engineering degree in electronic design techniques from the Karel de Grote Hogeschool, Antwerp, Belgium, in 2004. In 2006 he received the Master of Science degree in microelectronics from the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, Leuven, Belgium. From 2006 on, he worked as a research assistant at the ESAT-MICAS (MICroelectronics And Sensors) laboratories (K.U.Leuven) towards his PhD degree entitled ”Monolithic Inductive CMOS DC-DC Converters”, which he achieved in 2010. In 2011 he co-founded MinDCet NV, a Power Management IC design house, together with Jef Thoné. Mike has an extensive knowledge in the field of switched mode power supplies; both discrete and fully integrated. His other competences are analog and mixed-signal chip design, high-voltage applications, discrete design, LED-lighting and tube amplifiers.

Prof. dr. ir. Robert Puers,
Technical and strategic advisor

Robert (Bob) Puers received his Ph.D. in 1986 at the Katholieke Universiteit te Leuven. He is a European pioneer in the research on micromachining, MEMS and packaging techniques, mainly for biomedical implantable systems.

To this purpose, he installed a dedicated clean room for sensor and electronic packaging technology that now runs for more than 25 years under his guidance. Recently, microfluidic and optical MEMS based on polymers have been added to the backbone of his sensor research Beside MEMS, his work also focuses on low power systems, smart interfaces, inductive power and wireless communication. Devices developed range from bladder pressure and eye pressure monitoring, over instrumented orthopedic implants, to implanted pumps for assisted blood perfusion. One spinout of this research team are the design guidelines to improve the efficiency of power induction (with coil systems), that have been bundled in two books.

He took major efforts to increase the impact of MEMS and Microsystems in both the international research community as well as in industry. He helped to launch three spin-off companies, ICSense, Zenso and MinDCet. Dr. Puers is also an IEEE and IoP fellow.

Dr. ir. Alex Van den Bossche,
Chairman of the board

Dr. ir. Alex Van den Bossche graduated as electrotechnical engineer from the KULeuven in 1986. He obtained his doctoral degree in 1989 on the thesis ” Automatic Implantable Defibrillator”. He co-founded Krypton Electronic Engineering NV, specializing in optical dimensional measurement systems. After a successful trade sale to Metris he co-founded Allegro Investment Fund N.V., an early stage technology investment fund of which he is managing director.

Dr. ing. Jef Thoné,
Chief Technology Officer
and founder

Jef Thoné received the Bachelor degree in Automotive Technology in 1999 from the Hogeschool voor Wetenschap en Kunst in Schaarbeek, Belgium. In 2002 he received his Master degree in Electronics at the Karel de Grote Hogeschool in Antwerp, Belgium. From 2002 to 2006 he was employed as ASIC designer and project manager at Melexis Belgium, responsible for automotive sensor interface ASICs. In October 2006 he joined the Sensor Systems Group of ESAT-MICAS, Katholieke Universiteit Leuven in Leuven, Belgium. His PhD entitled “Telemetry for Capsule Endoscopy”was concluded in 2011 and focused on high data rate biocompatible telemetry systems. In 2011 he co-founded MinDCet NV, a mixed-signal Power Management design house, together with Mike Wens. His competences include analog and mixed-mode IC and discrete design, FPGA and microcontroller interfacing, electronic system design and prototyping.

ir. Kris Beyen
Technical and strategic advisor

Kris Beyen earned a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering and a Postgraduate degree in Business Administration, both from the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, in Belgium.

He held a number of positions in Quality, Sales and Product Management at Raychem and Tyco
He joined Cooper Industries in 2006 as Managing Director Europe, Middle East, Africa and India for Cooper Bussmann. In 2008, he was appointed President for Cooper Safety, in the UK. In 2012 Cooper was acquired by Eaton, where Kris Beyen then served until 2016 as Vice President Sales – Electrical Sector, and lead the joined sales forces of Cooper and Eaton in EMEA.
